The term combines &quot;deep learning&quot; and &quot;fake&quot; and dates to 2017. Deepfakes pose significant risks for disinformation, financial fraud, non-consensual intimate imagery, and identity theft, and are becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from genuine content as generative AI capabilities advance.
